1 pkg. german chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup butter, melted
2/3 cup evaporated milk
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds
50 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease one 9x13 inch baking pan.
Combine the cake mix, butter and 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Spread 1/3 of this mixture into the prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
Melt the caramels with the remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped nuts over the baked mixture and then drizzle the caramel over the top. Plop and then pat the remaining batter on top of the caramel. Bake an additional 20 minutes. Cool completely. Makes 24 bars.
**these bars are over the top. They are requested at every potluck I go to, when we are assigned dessert. Huge hit!
